DG Laxmi Chaudhary

Namaste and greetings to all Lion Dignitaries and Lion Members,

I am Lion Laxmi Chaudhary and am running as a candidate for the positon of Second Vice District Governor of District 4-C3 for the year 2023-2024. I have been involved in Lions Club International since I joined as a member of Berkeley Annapurna on March 1, 2006.

Berkeley Annapurna Lions Club is the first Nepalese Lions Club in California and was chartered March 30, 2006 for which I am a Charter Member. I also had the opportunity to work at both the club and district levels serving as Club Secretary, Club President, Zone and Region Chairpersons. It was one of my greatest opportunities to learn first-hand about leadership, service and at the same time meet with many Lions leaders.

I would like to share some moments which inspired me to decide to run for what ultimately will lead to a governor position:

1. Some time ago while attending one of the district cabinet meetings, one of our PDG asked me “when will you run for District Governor ”? I simply said “I will.”
2. The next time I attended a cabinet meeting another PDG and a few Lion leaders asked me the same question and I responded in the same fashion.
3. And then a few years ago at a Cultural program organized by a Lions Club, another PDG told me very directly “you will be the next 2nd VDG”. Once more I responded very simply “I will think about it.”
4. Similarly my respected and lovely Lions leaders from the Nepalese clubs always asked me “when will you run for Second VDG ? Again very calmly I said “I will”.

On my words, I did seriously think about running; however, at those particular times, I had responsibilities to my family and my business and I could not commit to such an important role. But life changes and now my children are grown up and they are handling the responsibilities of running a business as well as their own personal responsibilities which has now opened a path to where I can commit to the responsibilities of our District.

As we all know our Charter President Lion Rajen Thapa has already served as the District Governor and our fellow Lion and Past President Lion Manil Babu Shrestha will be serving as District Governor in 2023-2024. These incidents as well as all these experienced Lions have inspired, encouraged and motivated me to step up and serve Lions Clubs International.

I would like to say “your inspiration, your motivation combined with my passion, my interest and my family’s support is the reason for my “candidacy “. I feel ready and have decided to step up and take on the leadership role of 2nd Vice District Governor.

My campaign platform is to:

• strengthen our Lions movement,
• enhance our community service projects,
• motivate and empower our Lions members to step up with the spirit of equality and diversity
• continue projects initiated by past district governors but at the same time encourage and initiate new projects

Lions Clubs International insists on the highest standards of personal and professional integrity. It creates a positive culture of open communication and gives us a strong moral guideline for all of our decisions. When we have integrity, we gain trust and respect from the people around us. It made sense to me and how “suitable” that I chose my theme “Serving with Integrity”.

If I am elected as your District 4-C3 Second Vice District Governor, I will procure the opportunity to learn even more from the First Vice District Governor and the District Governor. My foremost commitment and focus will be to maintain and carry the legacy of our past Lions leaders and the tradition of District 4-C3, honoring the past and strengthening our effort to reach out to each individual member with integrity.
